PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's soccer team was defeated in its Skyline Conference opener Tuesday evening, falling to Yeshiva University by the score of 2-0.
With the result, the Panthers moved to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the league. For the Macs, they moved to 2-1-1 and 2-0-1, respectively.
The hosts began the contest with their foot on the gas, pressing the offensive charge early.
During the opening 28 minutes, Purchase produced five shots (two on goal), a corner kick and an offsides call, but couldn't find the final bit needed to secure a goal.
For Yeshiva, its breakthrough moment came in the 29th minute, as the Macs used a top-notch give and go play to jump ahead, 1-0.
That margin carried into the second frame, before the guests doubled it up in the 76th minute off a headed corner kick.
In the end, the score finished at 2-0 in favor of Yeshiva, even though Purchase outshot the visitors, 14-13 overall.
Offensively,
Luca Li Vigni (JR/Staten Island, NY) finished with four shots (one on goal), while
Yahir Tafoya (FY/Bronx, NY) added three shots (one on goal).
In goal,
Jack Gjokaj (SR/Thornwood, NY) finished with five saves in the effort.
Up next for the Panthers is a return to non-conference action as the squad hosts Brooklyn College on September 12th at 6 p.m.
