PURCHASE, N.Y. - After being shutout the first two games of the season, the Purchase College men's soccer team exploded to the tune of four goals Thursday evening, cruising past Brooklyn College in a non-conference showdown.
With the 4-1 victory, the Panthers moved to 1-2 on the year, while the Bulldogs dropped to 1-4.
Despite the decisive win, it was actually the guests that struck first as they snuck the opening shot of the game in during the 5th minute.
However, just 11 minutes later, the hosts were off and running thanks toÂ
Luca Li Vigni (JR/Staten Island, NY) and
Liam George (SR/Brooklyn, NY), as the latter found the former in the box following a give and go play.
George then added a strike of his own just before halftime, as the ball found his feet out of a scrum in the 43rd minute.
Following the break, the lead grew even larger as co-captain
Leo Conte (5th/New York, NY) made a brilliant goal out of nothing in front of net in the 52nd.Â
14 minutes later, Conte added an assist to his statsheet as he found
Yahir Tafoya (FY/Bronx, NY) for the fourth and final goal of the night.
In the end, Brooklyn finished with more overall shots (18-15), but Purchase dominated shots on goal (9-3).
In net,
Nicolas Nunez finished with his first career win, while
Adam Tobar (SO/Mineola, NY) tallied two saves in the effort.
Up next for the squad is a return to Skyline Conference action, as the team travels to U.S. Merchant Marine Academy on September 15th at noon.
