BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's volleyball team was defeated on the road Thursday night, falling to Brooklyn College in four sets.
Scores for the contest were 25-10, 25-18, 22-25 and 25-17. With the result, the Panthers moved to 1-2 overall, while the Bulldogs now stand at 3-4.
The Panthers opened the contest by scoring five of the first eight points to snatch the lead early, before a massive run from the hosts set the tone for the rest of the set.
Despite dropping the first two frames, the Blue and Orange rallied back in the third to extend the match. They used a five-point run midway through to establish the lead, and then did just enough to hold it late.
However, once the two sides entered the last stanza, the magic ran out for the guests as Brooklyn held the lead the entire way.
Overall, Purchase outpaced the Bulldogs in kills, 35-30, but was outhit, .126 to .006.
Individually,
Helena Carroll (FY/Lancaster, PA) lead the squad in points (13), kills (9), aces (4) and assists (19).
Additionally,
Lilith Bastek-Ochoa (SR/Sag Harbor, NY) and
Sadie Weiss (FY/Bronx, NY) each added seven kills, while
Marcella Pena (SO/Bronx, NY) tallied a career-high 27 digs.
Up next for the Panthers is the home opener, as they welcome WestConn on September 16th at 7 p.m.
