PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Purchase College women's tennis team fought hard in their home opener on Friday afternoon but came up short against Russell Sage College, 4-3. With the result, the Blue and Orange move to 1-1, while the Gators improved to 2-1 overall.
The Panthers secured a doubles win at the No. 3 spot, with Sierra Blanco (JR/New York, NY) and Katelin Smith (SO/Slate Hill, NY) earning a 6-3 victory.
In singles action, Smith dominated at No. 6 with a flawless 6-0, 6-0 sweep. Novalie Nguyen (JR/Macedon, NY) impressed at No. 4, winning 6-1, 6-2, while Blanco battled to a three-set victory at No. 5, taking the match 6-3, 3-6, 10-7.
Up next, Purchase hits the road on Sunday, September 15th, to face Yeshiva University at 2 p.m.
