RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's soccer team was defeated in a high-scoring affair Wednesday evening, dropping a Skyline Conference matchup to the University of Mount Saint Vincent, 6-3.
With the result, the Panthers moved to 1-4 overall and 0-3 in the league. For the Dolphins, they jumped to 5-0-2 and 1-0, respectively.
The night got off to a quick start for both sides, as the scoreboard lit up four times during the first 24 minutes.
The opening goal came in just the third minute, as the hosts struck first. Five minutes later,
Oliver Broun (SO/Athens, GA) tied things up for the Blue and Orange on an individual effort.
However, the tie was short lived as UMSV scored in the 17th and 24th minutes to take a commanding lead.
From there, Purchase cut the margin in half in the 41st minute, thanks to a strike from co-captain
Leo Conte (5th/New York, NY).
But just two minutes later, the Dolphins extended the lead back to two goals right before halftime. At the break, the score was 4-2.
Following halftime, Purchase trimmed the advantage once again, as Broun collected his second of the night off a feed from
Luca Li Vigni (JR/ Staten Island, NY) in the 68th.
The hosts weren't going to be stopped in the effort though, as they responded with another pair of goals in the 77th and 84th to seal the massive win.
Overall, the Dolphins paced play with a 23-11 shooting margin, including 10-6 on goal.
Broun led the Panthers with five shots, while
Yahir Tafoya (FY/Bronx, NY) added three. In goal,
Jack Gjokaj (SR/Thornwood, NY) collected four saves.
Up next for Purchase is more Skyline road action as the team travels to Sarah Lawrence College on September 21st at 3 p.m.
