PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Purchase College women's tennis team continued their win streak with a hard-fought victory against Hunter College on Saturday morning, taking the match 4-2. With the result, the Blue and Orange improved to 4-1, while the Hawks dropped to 1-3 overall.
The Panthers started strong in doubles action, securing victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots. The No. 1 team of Amelia Perlmutter (SO/Rutherford, NJ) and Olivia Menchell (SR/Los Angeles, CA) won 6-3, while the No. 3 duo of Sierra Blanco (JR/New York, NY) and Katelin Smith (SO/Slate Hill, NY) claimed a 6-4 victory.
In singles play, Menchell was forced to forfeit her match at No. 2 due to injury, but the rest of the team stepped up. Smith dominated at No. 6 with a 6-3, 6-4 win, while Blanco battled her way to a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 5. Novalie Nguyen (JR/Macedon, NY) clinched the match for Purchase at No. 4, securing a 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 win.
At No. 1 singles, Perlmutter had split sets (7-5, 0-6) before the match was marked as unfinished.
Up next, the Blue and Orange continue the battle of Anderson Hill Road as they face Skyline Conference rival, Manhattanville University, on September 24th at 3:30 p.m.
