PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's tennis team was defeated Tuesday evening, dropping a Skyline Conference matchup against Manhattanville University, 5-2.
With the result, the Panthers moved to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the league. For the Valiants, they jumped to 5-1 and 2-0, respectively.
To begin, the Blue and Orange secured an easy win at No.3 doubles, as the duo of
Sierra Blanco (JR/New York, NY) and
Katelin Smith (SO/Slate Hill, NY) cruised, 6-2.
However, the hosts dropped the other two matchups, allowing Manhattanville to jump ahead.
As action moved to singles play, the guests continued to roll, winning four of the six contests to secure the overall victory.
For the Panthers, they collected an easy win from Smith in the No.6 spot, 6-1, 6-1, while Blanco at the No.5 spot won after a comeback effort.
Initially, she dropped the first set, before rallying to the take the next two, 7-6 (7-1) and 10-6.
Up next for Purchase is more home action, as the squad welcomes Pratt Institute on September 26th at 4 p.m.
