OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's soccer team lost a Skyline Conference matchup Saturday afternoon, falling to SUNY Old Westbury by the score of 4-2.
With the result, the Panthers of Purchase are now 1-7 overall and 0-6 in the league. For the Panthers of Old Westbury, they advanced to 4-5-1 and 1-4, respectively.
The contest opened with 15 scoreless minutes, before the hosts took advantage in the 16th to jump ahead.
Things remained 1-0 for much of the half, until the Blue and Orange scored just 12 seconds before halftime on a solo effort from
Luca Li Vigni (JR/Staten Island, NY).
Following the break, Old Westbury slowly but surely took control again, scoring in the 54th and 68th to lead, 3-1.
A second strike from Li Vigni in the 90th minute trimmed the margin to just a single goal, before the hosting Panthers scored one final time during the last few seconds to secure the win.
Overall, Old Westbury outshot Purchase, 20-14 and 12-7 on goal.
For the visiting Panthers,
Oliver Broun (SO/Athens, GA) assisted on the final goal, while
Jack Gjokaj (SR/Thornwood, NY) finished with eight saves in the effort.
Up next for the Blue and Orange is a return to non-conference play, as they squad travels south to face Centenary University on October 5th at 3 p.m.
