KINGS POINT, N.Y. – The Purchase College women's soccer team's defense was put to the test in a 7-0 defeat against the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday afternoon. The loss dropped the Panthers to 3-8-0 overall and 1-3-0 in the Skyline Conference, while the Mariners improved to 5-1-2 overall and remained unbeaten in the conference at 4-0-1.
Merchant Marine opened the scoreboard just over seven minutes into the match and then scored again right before the end of the half. Despite a valiant effort from the Panthers' defense and goalkeepers, USMMA's offensive onslaught continued throughout the game as the netted five additional goals to end the game 7-0
Carolyn Hough (JR/Plainedge, NY) started in goal, making six saves in the first half, while
Jill Creegan (FY/High Falls, NY) added three more saves in the second half. The goalkeepers faced a total of 43 shots throughout the match.
The Blue and Orange will return to the field on September 30th as they travel to Albertus Magnus College. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
