Purchase Tops Lehman in Four Sets

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's volleyball team rallied for a convincing non-conference win Saturday afternoon, besting Lehman College in four sets.

Scores for the contest were 24-26, 25-6, 25-12 and 25-18. With the win, the Panthers moved to 3-7 overall, while the Lightning dropped to 3-8.

Initially, the matchup started out close as the two sides battled until the very end of the first set. In fact, Purchase had set point, 24-21, before the guests rallied off five straight to steal the opening stanza.

The hosts were not happy at all with that result, as they rebounded with a thoroughly dominating effort in set two, to the tune of eight kills and no errors on .348 hitting.

That set win set the stage for the rest of the match, as the Blue and Orange continued to roll over the final two frames to earn the win.

Overall, they finished with 40 kills on .206 hitting, while Lehman recorded totals of 34 and .041, respectively.

Individually, Sadie Weiss (FY/Bronx, NY) enjoyed a breakout game, as she led all players with 16 points and 12 kills.

Helena Carroll (FY/Lancaster, PA) collected 18 assists, six kills, three aces and four blocks (one solo), while Marcella Pena (SO/Bronx, NY) tallied 19 digs in the win.

Up next for the Panthers is the Skyline Conference opener, as the squad travels to St. Joseph's University-Long Island. That matchup is scheduled for October 1st at 7 p.m.
