BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Purchase College women's tennis team opened its season with a dominant win Thursday afternoon, defeating Brooklyn College 6-1.
With the victory, the Panthers moved to 1-0 overall, while Brooklyn College dropped to 0-1.
Purchase claimed two out of three doubles contests to start the day, with the No. 1 duo of Amelia Perlmutter (SO/Rutherford, NJ) and Olivia Menchell (SR/Los Angeles, CA) securing a 6-0 win, and the No. 2 team of Novalie Nguyen (JR/Macedon, NY) and Emma Arnaud (JR/Farmington, NY) winning 6-2.
In singles play, No. 1 Perlmutter led the charge with a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Menchell followed with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 2, while Nguyen (No. 3), Arnaud (No. 4), and No. 5 Katelin Smith (SO/ Slate Hill, NY) each won in straight sets to round out the day.
Up next for the Blue and Orange is a week to prepare for their home opener against Sage College on Spetember 13th at 3:00 p.m.
