PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's volleyball team was defeated in its season opener Thursday evening, falling to Brooklyn College in four sets.
Scores for the contest were 25-21, 22-25, 25-22 and 26-24.
With the result, the Panthers moved to 0-1, while the Bulldogs now sit at 1-1 on the young season.
On the night, all four sets were tight battles and that played out in the box score.
Each side finished with at least 45 kills and hit between .164 and .193, while committing nearly identical errors.
In the end, timing and key hits favored the guests as they used them to sneak past Purchase.
That was particularly the case in set four, as the Blue and Orange held a six-point lead late (20-14), before the Bulldogs managed to rally back and emerge victorious in the contest.
Individually,
Tyler Ryan (JR/Port Reading, NJ) paced all players with 19 kills and a team-high 10 digs on the night.
Channing Williams (SO/Neptune, NJ) added eight kills, three block assists and two aces, while
Udel Phillips (SO/Far Rockaway, NY) collected six kills, six block assists and two solo blocks in the effort.
Up next for the Panthers is the first road action of the year, as they travel to New Jersey for a tri-match with Kean University and Mount Saint Vincent on January 25th. The first game begins at noon.
