Purchase Dominates Old Westbury

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Purchase College women's basketball team delivered a dominant performance Wednesday night, rolling past Old Westbury 69-28 in Skyline Conference action.

With the win, the Panthers improved to 4-15 overall and 3-11 in conference play, while Old Westbury fell to 0-19 and 0-14, respectively.

Purchase set the tone early, opening the game with a basket from Kendall Larsen (SO/Staten Island, NY), followed by a layup from Amyrrah Mahabeir (SO/Brooklyn, NY) before the visitors could respond.

Then, senior Carlye Graff (South Nyack, NY) took over—erupting for 17 consecutive points, including five straight three-pointers and a layup. During Graff's scoring spree, Old Westbury managed just four points, and Purchase entered the second quarter with a commanding 26-7 lead.

The Blue and Orange maintained control the rest of the way, outpacing Old Westbury in every quarter en route to the lopsided victory.

Individually, Graff led all scorers with 22 points, draining six three-pointers while grabbing 10 rebounds for a double-double.

Jessica McHugh (SO/Ellenville, NY) provided a spark off the bench with 12 points on near-perfect 6-of-7 shooting, while Katie Argenzio (FY/Washingtonville, NY) chipped in nine points. Halle Greaige (SO/Rye Brook, NY) anchored the paint with 12 rebounds and six points.

Defensively, the hosts stifled Old Westbury, holding them to just 20.4% shooting from the field while forcing 20 turnovers. The visitors did hold a slight edge at the free-throw line, shooting 66.7% to Purchase's 60%.

The Blue and Orange have a quick turnaround as they travel to Kings Point, NY, to take on the United States Merchant Marine Academy on February 1 at noon.
