KINGS POINT, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's basketball team was defeated in a Skyline Conference matchup Saturday afternoon, falling to the United States Merchant Marine Academy, 86-24.
With the result, the Panthers dropped to 4-16 overall and 3-12 in the league. For the Mariners, they jumped to 18-1 and 15-0, respectively.
From the get-go, the Blue and Orange fell behind against the top-seeded team in the conference, as the hosts never looked back.
In the first quarter, they outscored Purchase, 22-4, and extended the margin to 45-10 by halftime.
Individually,
Jessica McHugh (SO/Ellenville, NY) led the way for the Panthers with nine points and six rebounds.
Carlye Graff (SR/South Nyack, NY) chipped in eight points and a steal.
Up next for Purchase is a week of rest before returning to action at home against Manhattanville University. That game is scheduled for February 8th at noon.
