PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Purchase College women's soccer team showed grit and determination Tuesday evening, rallying from a two-goal deficit to earn a 2-2 draw against Centenary University.
With the results, the Blue and Orange moved to 4-7-2, while the Cyclones moved to 3-7-2.
The visitors struck early, capitalizing on two first-half chances to take a 2-0 lead within the opening 11 minutes. Despite the rocky start, the Panthers regrouped defensively and began to build momentum, creating several promising opportunities before halftime.
Purchase's persistence paid off after the break. Valentina Quintero (SO/Eastchester, NY) sparked the comeback in the 51st minute, scoring off an assist from Lindita Selmani (JR/Brooklyn, NY).
With the Panthers pressing high and the defense holding firm, Julieth Velasquez (SR/White Plains, NY) found the equalizer in the 86th minute.
Goalkeepers Carolyn Hough (SR/Massapequa, NY) and Jill Creegan (SO/High Falls, NY ) split time in net, combining for eight saves on the day. Creegan's second-half performance, including six stops, helped keep the Panthers within striking distance.
Purchase outshot Centenary 8-7 in the second half and controlled the tempo down the stretch but couldn't find the go-ahead goal before time expired.
The Panthers will look to carry that second-half energy into their next match when they host Sarah Lawrence College on October 18 for a 2:30 p.m. Skyline showdown.
