OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's volleyball team was defeated in five sets Tuesday night, dropping the Skyline Conference matchup at SUNY Old Westbury.
Scores for the night 25-15, 25-18, 20-25, 22-25 and 15-11.
With the result, the Blue and Orange moved to 2-14 overall and 0-6 in the league. For the Panthers of Old Westbury, they jumped to 5-10 and 2-4, respectively.
After falling behind two sets to none to start, the Panthers responded with wins in the third and fourth frames, before ultimately succumbing in the fifth and final one.
The third stanza saw the guests' best hitting of the night, as they managed 13 kills on .250 hitting. By the fifth set though, their offense started to falter and Old Westbury raced out to a big margin.
While Purchase trimmed it down, it was unable to overcome and eventually fell, 15-11.
Overall, the Panthers finished with 37 kills on .021 hitting, while the hosts recorded totals of 45 and .115, respectively.
Individually,
Marcella Pena (JR/Bronx, NY) led the squad with a career-high 11 kills and 26 digs, whileÂ
Natalia Leite (JR/Thornwood, NY) tallied a season-high 20 assists.
Maya Brown (JR/Carteret, NJ) and
Sadie Weiss (SO/Bronx, NY) each finished with 13 points (nine kills and four aces) apiece in the effort.
Up next for the Panthers is more road Skyline action, as the team travels to Yeshiva University on October 26th at noon.
