Hough and Creegan Shine in Tough Battle with Golden Eagles

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Despite facing relentless offensive pressure from one of the Skyline Conference's top teams, the Purchase College women's soccer squad showed tremendous heart in a 3-0 loss to St. Joseph's University–Long Island on Wednesday evening at home.

The Panthers' defensive resilience was the story of the day, led by an incredible performance between the pipes. Carolyn Hough (SR/Massapequa, NY) and Jill Creegan (SO/High Falls, NY) combined for an astounding 25 saves, keeping Purchase competitive from start to finish against the Golden Eagles.

Hough made 13 stops in the opening half, denying a flurry of close-range chances, while Creegan followed with 12 second-half saves, including standing firm against a penalty kick in the 82nd minute. Together, the duo frustrated St. Joseph's attackers and anchored a back line that absorbed 47 total shots and 20 corner kicks.

On the attacking end, Lilah Hall (FY/Danville, VT) recorded Purchase's lone shot on goal in the first half, while Saige Navara (SO/Hurley, NY) added another attempt early in the match. Defenders Maggie Obman (JR/Scotia, NY), Sophia Franklin (JR/Ontario, Canada) and Angela Holness (JR/Newburgh, NY) each played the full 90 minutes, leading a tenacious defensive effort that forced St. Joseph's to work for every opportunity.

With the result, Purchase moved to 4-9-2 overall and 2-7 in Skyline play, while St. Joseph's improved to 10-3-2 and 8-1-1, respectively.

Up next, the Blue and Orange will host Old Westbury for their home finale and Pink Out game in support of Breast Cancer Awareness. Kickoff is set for noon.
