PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Purchase College women's soccer team closed out its 2025 home schedule with a special Pink Out game in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness, falling 1-0 to The College at Old Westbury.
With the result, Purchase dropped to 4-10-2 overall and 2-8 in the Skyline Conference, while Old Westbury improved to 7-7 and 4-6, respectively.
The match was evenly paced early on, with the Panthers generating several first-half opportunities. Senior forward
Julieth Velasquez (White Plains, NY) and junior striker
Lindita Selmani (Brooklyn, NY) led the charge, combining for seven of Purchase's 10 shots on goal. The best opportunity came on a free kick from
Saige Navara (SO/Hurley, NY), whose strike soared just over the keeper's hand and clanged off the crossbar.
After a scoreless opening half, Old Westbury capitalized in the 67th minute when a ball slipped past Purchase goalkeeper,
Carolyn Hough (SR/Massapequa, NY). The Panthers continued to push forward in response, testing the visitor's goalkeeper multiple times in the closing minutes, but were unable to find the equalizer despite controlling possession and outshooting the guests 18-7.
Defensively, goalkeeper Hough recorded three saves, while the back line anchored by
Maggie Obman (JR/Scotia, NY)
Angela Holness (JR/Newburgh, NY),
Sophia Franklin (JR/Ontario, Canada),
Elyza Colon (JR/Bronx, NY) and Navara limited Old Westbury's looks on goal and kept the visitors under constant pressure.
Up next, the Panthers close out the 2025 campaign with a Skyline Conference matchup at the University of Mount Saint Vincent on October 28th at 7 p.m.
