BRONX, N.Y. – The Purchase College women's tennis team earned a 5-2 road victory over Lehman College on Monday afternoon.
With the result, the Panthers improved to 5-4 overall while the Lightning dropped to 2-5.
The Panthers opened the match with a 2-1 lead after doubles play. The duo of Amelia Perlmutter (JR/Rutherford, NJ) and Sierra Blanco (SR/New York, NY) secured a 6-2 win at the No. 1 spot, while Katelin Smith (JR/Slate Hill, NY) and Novalie Nguyen (SR/Macedon, NY) teamed up for a convincing 6-1 decision at No. 2.
In singles action, Purchase kept the momentum rolling with victories in four of six matches. Blanco dominated at No. 2 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep and Smith followed with a 6-1, 6-2 win at the No. 3 position. Nguyen also added a straight-set win (6-1, 6-2) at No. 4. At No. 5 singles, Lilia Qi (SO/Buffalo, NY) battled through a competitive second set to prevail 6-3, 7-6 (7-1).
The Blue and Orange have a quick turnaround as they return home to host Western Connecticut State University on October 7 at 4 p.m.
