Panthers' Rally Falls Short vs. Farmingdale

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's soccer team dropped a high-scoring contest Tuesday night, falling to Farmingdale State College by the score 3-2.

With the result, the Panthers moved to 4-7-2 overall and 1-4-2 in the Skyline Conference. For the Rams, they now stand at 3-5-3 and 2-1-3, respectively.

Following a scoreless first half, the fireworks kicked off a third of the way through the second frame as the Blue and Orange struck first.

The opening tally came courtesy of an own goal, as a rebounding shot from Yahir Tafoya (SO/Mount Vernon, NY) bounced off the post into a crashing Farmingdale defender before landing in the back of the net in the 58th minute.

The celebration only lasted a few minutes though, as the guests tied things up in the 65th minute.

However, it was the next goal that really turned the tide in the match, as just 44 seconds later, the Rams again found the back of the net.

From there, the Panther defense was left reeling, as it conceded once more in the 67th to effectively seal the contest.

While the hosts now trailed, 3-1, they did not go down without a fight.

In turn, they were rewarded in the 76th minute, after a gorgeous through ball from Felix Robinson (SO/Bronx, NY) found a streaking Tafoya, who buried the chance.

Purchase pushed hard for an equalizer the rest of the way, including forcing the Farmingdale keeper into a tough save late. However, it did not come as the Rams escaped with the conference victory.

Overall, shots favored the guests by the margin of 19-14 overall and 9-3 on goal.

Tafoya paced the Blue and Orange with five shots, while Luca Valeriano (FY/Bronx, NY) totaled five saves in the effort.

Up next for the squad is a week of rest before returning to action with a non-conference matchup at Bard College. That game is set for October 15th at 7 p.m.
