BRONX, N.Y. – The Purchase College women's soccer team bounced back in a big way Thursday evening, shutting out Lehman College, 3-0.
With the win, the Panthers improved to 4-6 overall, while the hosts dropped to 0-8.
Purchase set the tone early, taking a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute when Lindita Selmani (JR/Brooklyn, NY) converted a penalty kick to help the Blue and Orange take control of the scoreboard.
The Panthers controlled possession throughout, outshooting the Lightning 14-6 and holding a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.
In the second half, Julieth Velasquez (SR/PWhite Plains, NY) took over, scoring back-to-back goals in the 61st and 78th minutes to secure the victory.
Goalkeepers Jill Creegan (SO/High Falls, NY) and Carolyn Hough (SR/Massapequa, NY) split time in net and combined for five saves in the shutout, while the defensive line held Lehman to just six shots.
Up next, Purchase returns home to celebrate Senior Day on October 11 at noon, hosting The City College of New York.
