FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. – The Purchase College women's tennis team saw its three-match winning streak come to an end Thursday evening, falling 5-2 to Baruch College at the U.S. National Tennis Center.

With the results, the Blue and Orange moved to 6-5 overall while the hosts improved to 4-4.

Despite Panthers' No. 2 duo of Novalie Nguyen (SR/Macedon, NY) and Katelin Smith (JR/Slate Hill, NY) earning a 6-3 victory, the Bearcats secured wins at No. 1 and No. 3 to take the first point. 

In singles play, Purchase picked up wins from Smith and Nguyen once again. Smith dominated at the No. 4 position, 6-2, 6-3, while Nguyen followed with a straight-sets victory at No. 5, 6-3, 6-4.

Sierra Blanco (SR/New York, NY) came up just short of forcing a third-set super tiebreak, allowing Baruch to clinch the overall match.

The Panthers return home to celebrate Senior Day on Saturday, October 11, against Sarah Lawrence College. The match is set for 1 p.m., with a brief Senior Day ceremony scheduled for 12:45 p.m.
