PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Purchase College women's basketball team fought hard but fell just short in a 72-66 loss to Saint Elizabeth University on Saturday afternoon.
With the results, the Blue and Orange are 1-2 on the season, while the Eagles improved to 2-2.
Purchase opened the scoring with a basket from Tianna Patten (FY/Mount Vernon, NY) just one minute into the game and added three more points before the visitors responded. Saint Elizabeth carried a seven-point lead into halftime, despite the Panthers tying the score five times.
The hosts battled back in the second and third quarters, at one point taking a three-point lead but strong defense and some key 3-pointers from the Eagles secured their win, 72-66.
Purchase received balanced scoring from its bench, with Katie Argenzio (SO/Washingtonville, NY) contributing a team-high 13 points, followed by Ashley Santiago (FY/Poughkeepsie, NY) with 12 and KyAni Allgood (FY/New London, CT) adding 10. Charlee Neb (SR/Longmont, CO) led the starters with 10 points, along with five assists and a steal.
The Panthers shot 40.3 percent from the field and 20 percent from three-point range, while hitting 61.5 percent of their free throws compared to the visitors shooting 39.3, 20 and 71.4 percent, respectively.
The Blue and Orange will return to action on November 19th for a 6 p.m. tip-off at Anna Maria College.
