PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Purchase College women's basketball team fought hard but fell just short in a 72-66 loss to Saint Elizabeth University on Saturday afternoon.
With the results, the Blue and Orange are 1-2 on the season, while the Eagles improved to 2-2.
Purchase opened the scoring with a basket from Tianna Patten (FY/Mount Vernon, NY) just one minute into the game and added three more points before the visitors responded. Saint Elizabeth carried a seven-point lead into halftime, despite the Panthers tying the score five times.
The hosts battled back in the second and third quarters, at one point taking a three-point lead but strong defense and some key 3-pointers from the Eagles secured their win, 72-66.
Purchase received balanced scoring from its bench, with Katie Argenzio (SO/Washingtonville, NY) contributing a team-high 13 points, followed by Ashley Santiago (FY/Poughkeepsie, NY) with 12 and KyAni Allgood (FY/New London, CT) adding 10. Charlee Nebb (SR/Longmont, CO) led the starters with 10 points, along with five assists and a steal.
The Panthers shot 40.3% from the field and 20% from three-point range, while hitting 61.5% of their free throws compared to the visitors shooting 39.3%, 20% and 71.4%, respectively.
The Blue and Orange will return to action on November 19th for a 6 p.m. tip-off at Anna Maria College.
