PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's basketball team was defeated at home Saturday afternoon, dropping a non-conference matchup to Skidmore College by the score of 58-50.
With the result, the Panthers moved to 1-4, while the Thoroughbreds now stand at 2-2.
Over the first 20 minutes of action, the contest was a low-scoring affair, as the Blue and Orange led at the break, 25-23.
Following halftime, the hosts continued to enjoy an edge in the contest, lead by as many as six points, 40-34, with just under 12 minutes to go.
However, the visitors were just biding their time, and waiting to strike.
That moment finally came with eight minutes remaining, as Skidmore turned a 45-44 deficit into a 52-45 lead just two and half minutes later.
Over the rest of the game, Purchase never got closer than down three points as they ultimately fell on the day, 58-50.
Overall, the Panthers were sluggish on offense, shooting just 36.8 percent from the field and 15 percent from long distance. For Skidmore, it totaled percentages of 37.9 and 12.5, respectively.Â
In the end, the guests took the contest after winning the bench points battle, 33-4, as well as the turnover battle, 23-17.
Individually,
Chris Hunter (SR/Charlotte, NC) finished with a game-high 13 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals.
Desmond Ward (SR/Queens, NY) added 12 points, seven rebounds and two blocks, while
Antuan Darden (JR/Binghamton, NY) chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds.
Up next for the Panthers is more non-conference home action, as they squad welcomes York College on November 25th at 6 p.m.
