PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Purchase College women's basketball team opened Skyline Conference play in dominant fashion Saturday afternoon, rolling past Old Westbury, 63–39, behind a breakout performance from Katie Argenzio.
With the results, the Blue and Orange improved to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in the conference, while the visiting Panthers dropped to 1-2 and 0-2, respectively.
Argenzio (SO/Washingtonville, NY) delivered a game-high and career-high 17 points, knocking down 5-of-11 from beyond the arc to spark a Purchase offense that erupted after a slow first quarter. The hosts trailed 10–7 after one, then blew the game open with a 26–4 second quarter, turning a three-point deficit into a 19-point halftime lead.
The Panthers kept their foot down in the second half, outscoring the visitors 30–25 the rest of the way, never allowing Old Westbury back within single digits.
Individually, Charlee Neb (SR/Longmont, CO) added 12 points, four steals, and five assists in an all-around effort, while Ashley Santiago (SO/Poughkeepsie, NY) chipped in eight points and three rebounds. Kaylena Steiner (JR/Fresno, CA) added six points and a team-high seven rebounds and KyAni Allgood (FY/New London, CT) recorded six points and two blocks.
Purchase forced 19 steals and turned Old Westbury over 35 times, generating 29 points off turnovers and 15 fast-break points. Overall, the Blue and Orange shot 31.1 percent compared to the guest's 28.1 percent.
Up next, the team travels to St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn on November 25th for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
