PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Purchase College women's basketball team extended its win streak Saturday afternoon, defeating the University of Mount Saint Vincent (UMSV), 75–60.
With the result, the Blue and Orange improved to 5-3 overall and 4-0 in Skyline play, while the Dolphins fell to 2-5 and 1-3, respectively.
Purchase weathered an early 8–0 deficit before flipping the momentum behind a three from Charlee Neb (SR/Longmont, CO) and a quick layup from Ashley Santiago (SO/Poughkeepsie, NY). The hosts continued to push the tempo and Tianna Patten (FY/Mount Vernon, NY) calmly knocked down three free throws to give Purchase its first lead, 12–11.
The Panthers entered the second quarter up 20–16 and then exploded, outscoring UMSV 23–12 behind three made threes from Katie Argenzio (SO/Washingtonville, NY), Neb, and Patten, taking a 43–28 lead into the half.
Purchase successfully held off a second-half push from the Dolphins. The Panthers' bench outscored the visitors 45–7, and the team turned 29 turnovers into 24 points, closing out the 75–60 Skyline victory.
Individually, Neb led all scorers with 23 points, hitting four threes and grabbing five steals. Patten came off the bench for a massive 21-point, six-rebound effort on 7-of-11 shooting, while Santiago added 15 points in just 19 minutes with five rebounds and Kaylena Steiner (JR/Fresno, CA) held the inside with eight rebounds.
As a team, Purchase shot 37.5 percent from the field, 31 percent from three and 85.7 percent at the line, compared to UMSV's marks of 35.8%, 30.8%, and 50%.
Up next, Purchase will hit the road on December 9th to face the United States Merchant Marine Academy at 5 p.m.
