Panthers Drop Skyline Opener

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's basketball team was defeated in its Skyline Conference Opener Tuesday evening, falling to Yeshiva University by the score of 71-46.

With the result, the Panthers moved to 2-7 overall and 0-1 in the league. For the Macs, they jumped to 2-6 and 1-0, respectively.

In the first half, the Blue and Orange played well as the two sides traded the lead back and forth four times.

With under five minutes remaining, Purchase gained its biggest advantage of the contest, 25-21, before a 7-0 run to close the half put the guests ahead for good.

In the second half, the margin grew quickly as the Macs led by double digits for more than half the frame. In the end, they cruised down the stretch to prevail.

Offensively, Purchase struggled as it shot just 25.9 percent overall and 15.6 percent from long range. For the visitors, they shot 49.2 percent overall, while winning the rebounding and turnover battles.

Individually, Desmond Ward (SR/Queens, NY) was the only Panther to score double figures, as he totaled 10 points, five rebounds and two steals.

Maurice Western (FY/Bronx, NY) added nine points, while Antuan Darden (JR/Binghamton, NY) recorded six points, four rebounds and a block.

Up next for the hosts is more Skyline action as they host Mount Saint Mary College on December 13th at noon.
