PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's volleyball team nearly completed an epic comeback Tuesday night, before ultimately falling to John Jay College in five sets.
Scores for the contest were 25-19, 25-16, 25-27, 10-25 and 15-13.
With the result, the Panthers dropped to 5-5 overall, while the Bloodhounds improved to 8-2.
Over the first two sets, the guests were in control and secured relatively easy wins to go in front.
However, the Blue and Orange kept fighting with their backs against the wall.
In set three, they rallied back from 5-0 and 16-13 deficits, and overcame a pair of match points to prevail in the frame.
That momentum carried over into the fourth set, as the Panthers cruised thanks to a set-best hitting percentage of .524.
Following the win, the two sides were tied at two sets apiece.Â
Over the final frame, things remained close early on, before five-straight points from John Jay gave the visitors all the space they needed.
Even still, Purchase pushed them to the very brink, before finally falling by the score of 15-13.
Overall, the Panthers hit .211 with 50 kills on the night. For the Bloodhounds, they recorded totals of .256 and 55, respectively.
