PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's volleyball team prevailed in a non-conference matchup Thursday evening, topping Saint Elizabeth University in four sets.
Scores for the contest were 25-19, 25-17, 15-25 and 25-23.
With the win, the Panthers moved to 6-5 overall. For the Eagles, they dropped to 2-9.
To begin the night, the hosts were unstoppable as they raced out to big leads during the first two sets.
While the guests rallied to extend the contest in set three, the Blue and Orange did just enough to emerge victorious in the final frame to earn the collective win.
Overall, the two sides finished with nearly identical hitting numbers, as the hosts hit .140 with 41 kills and the guests tallied 40 kills on .128 hitting.
Individually,
Channing Williams (SO/Neptune, NJ) paced all players with a game-high 22.5 points, 18 kills and six blocks (one solo).
Ayden Mercado (FY/Brooklyn, NY) finished with 34 assists, while
Hector Ruiz (FY/Bronx, NY) totaled a game-high 13 digs.
As a team, the Panthers combined for 22 blocks assists with
Udel Phillips (SO/Far Rockaway, NY) leading the way with seven.
Up next for the squad is a road non-conference tri-match as they take on Russell Sage College and Dean College on February 22nd, beginning at 1 p.m.
