Panthers Clinch OT Win at UMSV to Close Regular Season

BRONX, N.Y. – The Purchase College men's basketball team wrapped up the regular season clinching a 68-65 overtime victory against the University of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday afternoon.

The win pushed the Panthers to 14-11 overall and 10-6 in the Skyline Conference, while the Dolphins fell to 9-16 and 6-10, respectively.

The Blue and Orange controlled the first half, heading into the break with a 34-28 lead. Mount Saint Vincent responded with a 31-point surge in the second half, forcing the game into overtime. In the extra period, the Panthers clamped down defensively, holding the Dolphins to just six points while sinking clutch free throws to secure the win, 68-65.

Individually, Matthew Phillips (SR/Bronx, NY) led the charge with a double-double, tallying 12 points, 17 rebounds, and three blocks. Gabe Bristow (JR/Poughkeepsie, NY) contributed across the board with 11 points, nine rebounds, six assists, and three steals.

Chad Duke (JR/Brooklyn, NY) came off the bench to score 15 points, including an 8-for-11 performance from the free-throw line and Tyler Bond (JR/Jamaica, NY) added nine points and six rebounds, while Desmond Ward (JR/Queens, NY) chipped in seven points and five boards.

The Panthers out-rebounded the Dolphins 67-52, including 22 offensive boards leading to 16 second-chance points.

With the regular season now concluded, Purchase turns its focus to the Skyline Conference Championships, with the first round set for February 25th.
