PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's volleyball team earned a win during the Battle of the Panthers Tuesday night, as it bested the Panthers of SUNY Old Westbury in straight sets.
Scores for the contest were 25-23, 25-22 and 25-14.
With the Skyline Conference win, the Blue and Orange moved to 12-10 overall and 5-2 in the league. For the Green and White, they dropped to 4-10 and 2-6, respectively.
The first two sets of the evening ended up being toss-ups, even though the hosts were the superior squad in each frame in terms of kills and hitting.
Luckily, they prevailed regardless, before cruising to an easy victory to close out the night in set three.
Overall, Purchase finished with 50 kills on .353 hitting, while Old Westbury collected 30 kills on .165 hitting.
Individually,
Channing Williams (SO/Neptune, NJ) led the way with a game-high 22.5 points on 17 kills, four aces and two blocks (one solo).Â
Ayden Mercado (FY/Brooklyn, NY) finished with a career-high 43 assists, while
Tyler Ryan (JR/Port Reading, NJ) chipped in a team-best 13 digs and nine kills.
Up next for the Panthers is a Skyline Conference tri-match at Sarah Lawrence College with St. Joseph's University-Long Island. It will take place on March 15th, beginning at 10 a.m.Â
