BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Purchase College men's volleyball team split a Skyline Conference tri-match at Sarah Lawrence on Saturday, sweeping the hosts before falling to St. Joseph's (L.I.).
With the results, the Panthers moved to 13-11 overall and 6-3 in the conference.
Game One: Purchase 3, Sarah Lawrence 0 (25-15, 27-25, 25-20)
Purchase dominated the opening match, holding Sarah Lawrence to a .070 hitting percentage while hitting .245 as a team. The Panthers tallied 41 kills and controlled the net with six total blocks.
Individually, Channing Williams (SO/Neptune, NJ) led the way with 20 kills and four blocks. Tyler Ryan (JR/Port Reading, NJ) contributed eight kills and seven digs, while Udel Phillips (SO/Far Rockaway, NY) added five kills and three aces. Setter Ayden Mercado (FY/Brooklyn, NY) dished out 34 assists in the victory.
Game Two: Purchase 0, St. Joseph's (L.I.) 3 (13-25, 14-25, 19-25)
In the second match, the Panthers struggled to find their rhythm against the conference-leading Golden Eagles.
St. Joseph's (L.I.) hit an impressive .434 as a team while holding Purchase to a .082 hitting percentage. The Blue and Orange managed 21 kills and one block in the effort.
Williams again led the Panthers with 11 kills and four digs, while Ryan and Phillips added five and two kills, respectively. Mercado recorded 12 assists, and Scott Rogers (FY/Suffern, NY) contributed four digs.
The Blue and Orange continue their road campaign as they head to New Jersey City University on March 19th for a 7 p.m. match.
