JERSEY CITY, N.J. - The Purchase College men's volleyball team was defeated in a Skyline Conference matchup Monday evening, falling to New Jersey City University in straight sets.
Set scores for the contest were 25-23, 25-15 and 25-13.
With the result, the Panthers dropped to 13-12 overall and 6-4 in the league. For the Gothic Knights, they jumped to 13-7 and 8-1, respectively.
The opening set saw the closest action between the two sides, as they were neck and neck throughout.
For the Blue and Orange, they held the lead late, 22-20, and were tied with the hosts, 23-all, before NJCU managed to sneak out the win.
The following sets went more decisively in favor of the hosts, as they eventually prevailed in three frames.
Overall, Purchase hit .111 on the night with 29 kills, while the Gothic Knights finished with totals of .262 and 36, respectively.
Individually,
Channing Williams (SO/Neptune, NJ) paced the Panthers with 14 kills, seven digs and two aces.
Ayden Mercado (FY/Brooklyn, NY) totaled team-high totals in assists (24) and digs (eight) in the effort.
Up next for the squad is a road Skyline matchup with the defending champs, St. Joseph's University-Long Island on March 19th at 7 p.m.
