NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The Purchase College men's lacrosse team earned a 6-3 win over Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on Saturday afternoon.
With the results, the Blue and Orange improved to 2-3 on the season while the MCLA Trailblazers dropped to 0-4.
The Panthers struck first with three goals in the opening quarter, including a pair from Kevon Joseph (JR/Brooklyn, NY) and a tally from Zach Collins (SR/Victor, NY). MCLA responded with a goal late in the first and two in the second quarter, but the Blue and Orange maintained control, taking a 5-3 lead into halftime behind a goal from Soleil Gaines (JR/Garrison, NY).
In a defensive battle after the break, Purchase shut out MCLA for the final two quarters. Joseph completed his hat trick with a goal at 10:16 in the third, securing the final margin.
Individually, Joseph led all scorers with three goals and an assist, while Gaines added two goals, an assist and four caused turnovers. Collins finished with a goal and two assists and Cameron Savoca (SO/Nesconset, NY) recorded six faceoff wins, six caused turnovers and 10 ground balls.
Defending the cage, Sam Erlich (SO/Plainview, NY) posted a .500 save percentage, stopping three of 15 shots while allowing three goals.
The Panthers tallied 26 shots and 35 ground balls compared to the Trailblazers' 15 and 26.
The Blue and Orange return to action on March 19th when they host Bryn Athyn College at 7 p.m.
