PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College baseball team cruised to a pair of convincing wins Sunday afternoon, besting Yeshiva University in the Skyline Conference doubleheader opener.
With the wins, the Panthers moved to 4-5 overall and 2-0 in the league. For the Macs, they dropped to 0-8 and 0-4, respectively.
Game One: Purchase 22, Yeshiva 1 (7 inn.)
The day started quickly for the hosts, as they outscored Yeshiva 10-0 over the first three innings.
While the guests got a run back in the fourth frame, the Blue and Orange erupted to the tune of 11 runs in the fifth, the final four of which were drilled home off a
Liam Daly (JR/Babylon, NY) grand slam to punctuate the win.
In total, the Panthers finished with 22 runs on 17 hits, as five players recorded multi-hit games.
Daly led the pack with a cycle (a single, double, triple and home run), five RBIs and three runs, while
Tristen Abreu (JR/Mineola, NY) totaled three hits (two doubles), three RBIs and five runs.
On the mound,
Myles Scarry (5th/Levittown, NY) tossed a seven-inning complete game, where he allowed just one run on three hits while striking out a career-high 16 batters.
Game Two: Purchase 13, Yeshiva 0 (7 inn.)
The second game of the day saw the Panthers dominate in similar fashion, as this time around, they scored a run in every inning.
Overall, Purchase finished with 13 runs on 13 hits, as Abreu, Scarry,
Panos Sinis (JR/Pound Ridge, NY),
Frank Rega (JR/West Islip, NY) and
Evan Biener (FY/Hillsdale, NJ) each finished with a pair of hits.
Sinis led the way with a double and two-run homer, four RBIs and three runs.
On the hill,
Christian Miesegaes (SO/Staten Island, NY) pitched a gem of his own, with a complete-game shutout. Over seven innings of work, he allowed just four hits with four strikeouts.
Up next for the Panthers is a return to non-conference action as they host SUNY New Paltz for a single game on March 19th at 3 p.m.
