PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College baseball team was defeated in a non-conference single game Wednesday afternoon, falling to SUNY New Paltz by the score of 15-8.
With the result, the Panthers dropped to 4-6 overall and the Hawks improved to 8-6.
The guests struck first, driving in a pair of runs in the first inning, before
Liam Daly (JR/Babylon, NY) trimmed the margin in half with a solo home run to opposite field in the bottom of the inning.
Two frames later, New Paltz added two more runs to make it 4-1, as Daly again halved the margin, this time thanks to a sacrifice fly that scored
Tristen Abreu (JR/Mineola, NY) in the third.
From there though, the Hawks began to slowly but surely pull away, making it 7-3 after four, 10-3 after five and 13-3 after five and half innings.
For the Panthers, they enjoyed a three-run frame in the sixth, as a balk and a two-run triple from
Myles Scarry (5th/Levittown, NY) cut the score to 13-6.
Over the final three innings, the two sides each added a pair of runs apiece to finish the contest, 15-8.
At the plate, Purchase recorded seven hits from seven different players. Abreu and
Kyle Coy (FY/Brooklyn, NY) each tallied two runs in the effort.
On the mound, starter
Brandon Reybok (JR/Lindenhurst, NY) was tagged with the loss, despite limited action. He went three innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits.
From there, six pitchers each pitched a single inning for the hosts.
Up next for the squad is the annual spring break Florida trip, where the Panthers will begin against Carleton College and Lawrence University back-to-back beginning at 3:30 p.m. on March 22nd.
