DAVENPORT, Fla. - The Purchase College baseball team kicked off the opening day of its spring break trip Saturday afternoon, dropping a pair of contests to Carleton College and Lawrence University.
Game One: Carleton 12, Purchase 4
In the opening game of the afternoon, the Knights struck first with a run in the second. The Panthers then matched it with a run of their own, thanks to an RBI-single from
Evan Biener (FY/Hillsdale, NJ) in the bottom half.
Carleton responded with three runs over the next two frames to lead 4-1, before
Panos Sinis (JR/Pound Ridge, NY) drew a bases-loaded walk in the fifth inning to halve the margin.
Over the sixth and seventh innings, the Knights added three more runs, while Sinos drove in a run off an RBI-groundout to make it 7-3.
From there, Carleton scored five unanswered, before
Jared Rosa (SO/Bronx, NY) crossed home in the ninth to push the margin to 12-4 where it finished.
The Blue and Orange finished with seven hits overall, as Biener led the way with two hits, including a double.
On the mound,
Myles Scarry (5th/Levittown, NY) went five innings, allowing four runs on seven hits. He struck out five in the losing effort.
Game Two: Lawrence 5, Purchase 2
The final game of the day saw a close finish between the two sides, as Purchase entered the ninth inning down just a run.
To begin, Sinis got things going with a two-run triple in third inning, before a three-run fifth put the Vikings ahead for good. They later tacked on a pair of runs late to seal the victory.
Overall, the Panthers tallied three hits, as
Mason Compton (SR/Carmel, NY) collected the other two hits on the day.
On the mound,
Christian Miesegaes (SO/Staten Island, NY) threw a nine-inning complete game in the lose. He finished with five runs (none earned) on nine hits, while fanning three.
Up next for the squad is day two of the RussMatt Central Florida Invite, as they play Williams College in a doubleheader tomorrow (3/23). First pitch of game one is set for 1 p.m.
