PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Purchase College men's tennis team dominated its home opener Tuesday afternoon, defeating Brooklyn College by a score of 5-2.

With the victory, the Panthers move to 1-0 on the season, while the visiting Bulldogs drop to 0-5.

Purchase came out strong in doubles play, with Eli Palagatshev (JR/Yonkers, NY) and Suleyman Eminov (SR/Mary, Turkmenistan) securing a 6-1 win at No. 1. At No. 3, Steve Mains (SR/Mount Kisco, NY) and Oliver Culliton (SR/Boston, MA) cruised to a 6-0 victory, giving the Panthers a 2-1 lead heading into singles play. Securing the third doubles win at No. 2 was a hard-fought battle, as Isaac Spottek (FY/Conklin, NY) and Dexter Pretnar (SO/Mohegan Lake, NY) prevailed in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-3).

Pretnar set the tone in singles play with a dominant 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 5. Culliton followed with a hard-fought victory at No. 6, battling back for a 6-7, 6-2 result. Eminov then secured the match for the Panthers at No. 2 with a 3-6, 6-0, 6-4 comeback win, before Palagatshev capped off the day with a gritty 6-4, 6-7, 10-7 triumph at No. 1.
