PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Purchase College men's tennis team cruised to a 7-0 victory over John Jay College Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Panthers improve to 2-0 on the season, while the Bloodhounds drop to 0-2.
Purchase College came out strong in doubles play, with Eli Palagatshev (JR/Yonkers, NY) and Suleyman Eminov (SR/Mary, Turkmenistan) dominating to a 6-0 win at No. 1. Dexter Pretnar (SO/Mohegan Lake, NY) and Isaac Spottek (FY/Conklin, NY) followed with a 6-0 victory at No. 2. The Panthers completed the doubles sweep as Oliver Culliton (SR/Boston, MA) and Steve Mains (SR/Mount Kisco, NY) secured a 6-0 win at No. 3.
In singles, the Panthers dominated, with Palagatshev, Spottek, Pretnar, Mains and Andrew Agosto (SR/Poughkeepsie, NY) all securing 6-0, 6-0 wins in their respective matches. Eminov dropped a lone game at the No. 2 spot but still claimed a solid 6-0, 6-1 victory.
The Blue and Orange will return after spring break to face their first conference match against Yeshiva University. Match play begins at 7 p.m on April 1st.
