BROOKDALE, N.Y. – The Purchase College men's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season Tuesday night, dropping a 6-0 decision to Yeshiva University in their Skyline Conference opener.
With the results, the Panthers move to 2-1 overall, while the Maccabees improve to 6-3.
Purchase secured a 7-6 (7-1) victory at the No. 1 spot with Eli Palagatshev (JR/Yonkers, NY) and Suleyman Eminov (SR/Mary, Turkmenistan). However, Yeshiva took the wins at No. 2 and No. 3 to take a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
In singles action, the Maccabees controlled the match, winning five of six contests in straight sets. Palagatshev battled at No. 1 but fell 6-4, 6-4, while Eminov forced a third set at No. 2 before the match was called at 2-2. Steve Mains (SR/Mount Kisco, NY) put up a fight at No. 4 but ultimately fell 6-4, 6-2.
Up next, the Panthers return home to face Baruch College on April 6th at 3 p.m.
