HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. - The Purchase College men's lacrosse team battled to a thrilling 12-11 overtime victory against Centenary University on the road Friday afternoon.
With the win, the Panthers improved to 3-4, while the Cyclones remained winless at 0-5-1.
The back-and-forth contest saw Centenary take an 8-4 lead early in the third quarter before Purchase responded with a dominant stretch, outscoring the hosts 8-3 the rest of the way.
The Panthers scored four goals in the final six minutes of regulation, with Jack Saueracker's (SR/Old Bethpage, NY) tally at 1:25 giving them their first lead since the first quarter.
The hosts forced overtime with a goal in the final minute, but Kevon Joseph (JR/Brooklyn, NY) sealed the win for Purchase just 1:29 into the extra period.
Individually, Zach Collins (SR/Victor, NY) led the charge with four goals and two assists, including a crucial late-game tally. Joseph netted the game-winner in overtime, finishing with three goals and two assists.
Soleil Gaines (JR/Garrison, NY) and Saueracker each contributed two goals, while Zach Scott (FY/West Babylon, NY) chipped in a goal and a team-high four assists.
Defensively, Cameron Savoca (SO/Nesconset, NY) anchored the effort with five ground balls and a team-high three caused turnovers.
In Goal, TJ Pasqualini (FY/West Harrison, NY) earned the win with eight saves on 19 shots.
The Blue and Orange continue their road campaign, this time to SUNY Delhi on March 26th for a 6 p.m. faceoff.
