BRONX, N.Y. – The Purchase College men's volleyball team secured a 3-0 victory over the University of Mount Saint Vincent on Tuesday night.
Scores for the match were 25-16, 25-22, 25-18.
With the results, the Blue and Orange improved to 14-14 overall and 7-6 in the Skyline Conference, while the Dolphins fell to 5-17 and 3-10, respectively.
The Panthers dominated the first set before facing a tougher challenge in the second, as UMSV briefly took the lead three times. However, Purchase stayed composed and closed out the set. The visitors then controlled the third, jumping ahead by seven before the Dolphins closed the gap to just two points, but the Blue and Orange regrouped and cruised to match point.
Individually, Channing Williams (SO/Neptune, NJ) led the Panthers with 15 kills and 6 digs and Hector Ruiz (FY/Bronx, NY) delivered a strong performance with 10 kills, 10 digs, and a .400 hitting percentage.
Tyler Ryan (JR/Port Reading, NJ) added 7 kills and a team-high 11 digs, while Ayden Mercado (FY/Brooklyn, NY) facilitated the offense with 33 assists and contributed 3 blocks and Scott Rogers (FY/Suffern, NY) led from the service line with 4 aces.
As a team, Purchase hit .202, tallying 40 kills and 41 digs, while holding UMSV to a .101 hitting percentage with 26 kills.
The Panthers return home to host Sarah Lawrence College on March 27 at 7 p.m.
