Purchase Falls to Colby in Spring Break Finale

DAVENPORT, Fla. - The Purchase College baseball team was defeated in the final game of its Florida Spring Break trip Wednesday morning, falling to Colby College by the score of 12-6.

With the result, the Panthers moved to 4-12 overall, while the Mules jumped to 9-4.

To begin, it was the Blue and Orange that stuck first thanks to an RBI-single from Julian Diaz (FY/Jamaica, NY) in the top of the second inning.

One frame later, Purchase notched three more runs courtesy of a three-run triple from Patrick Reyes (JR/Plainedge, NY) to lead 4-0.

Colby responded right back though, scoring a pair of runs in the third and five in the fourth to grab the lead.

From there, the Panthers added another tally in the fifth inning off a Jared Rosa (SO/Bronx, NY) sacrifice fly, trimming the margin to 7-5.

However, the Blue and Orange didn't get any closer the rest of the way, eventually losing by the total of 12-6. Their final run came from another RBI-single from Diaz in the seventh.

Overall, Purchase finished with seven hits in the effort, as Diaz led the way with three hits.

Reyes collected a pair of hits, while Mason Compton (SR/Carmel, NY) and Evan Biener (FY/Hillsdale, NJ) each scored two runs apiece.

On the mound, Christian Miesegaes (SO/Staten Island, NY) got the midweek start, but he only went an inning in preparation for Skyline Conference play this weekend.

Following him was Colin D'Onofrio (FY/Stamford, CT), who received the loss after allowing seven runs (five earned) on four hits over 2.2 innings of work.

Up next for the squad is a return to New York and conference action, as the Panthers host St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn on March 29th for a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 11 a.m.
