PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College baseball team earned a pair of wins Saturday afternoon, topping St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn in unique ways during the Skyline Conference matchup.
With the wins, the Panthers moved to 6-12 overall and 4-0 in the league. For the Bears, they dropped to 2-6 and 0-2, respectively.
Game One: Purchase 11, SJBK 10 (7 inn.)
The first game saw the guests race out to a massive lead, 9-1, after the top of the fourth, before the Blue and Orange began their rally.
They scored six in the fourth, one in the fifth and three more in the seventh, including the walk-off two-run single from
Patrick Reyes (JR/Plainedge, NY) to send the Panthers out as victors.
In total, the hosts finished with 12 hits, as
Mason Compton (SR/Carmel, NY) and
Liam Daly (JR/Babylon, NY) each tallied three hits, two runs and an RBI in the effort.
On the mound, starting pitcher
Myles Scarry (5th/Levittown, NY) was roughed up early after allowing nine runs (eight earned) on seven hits over four innings.Â
Michael Silverstein (FY/Brooklyn, NY) then came on to pitch the final three innings, allowing just one run on one hit to earn the victory.
Game Two: Purchase 5, SJBK 1
Following the comeback, the Panthers found game two to be a much easier affair as they grabbed the lead early and never looked back.
After Brooklyn scored their lone run in the top of the second, the hosts responded with single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to lead, 3-1. Two innings later, that trend continued as Purchase added one run in the seventh and eighth.
At the plate, the Blue and Orange recorded eight hits, including two apiece from Daly, Reyes and
Panos Sinis (JR/Pound Ridge, NY).
On the hill,
Christian Miesegaes (SO/Staten Island, NY) tossed an absolute gem, going nine innings for the complete game and allowing just one run on six hits.
Up next for the squad is more Skyline action, as it travels to Mount Saint Mary College tomorrow (3/30) at noon.
