HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. - The Purchase College baseball team was defeated in a single contest Tuesday afternoon, falling at Centenary University by the score of 7-1.
With the non-conference loss, the Panthers moved to 0-3 on the young season. For the Cyclones, they improved to 3-4-1.
The day started slowly for both sides, as the first three innings were scoreless.
The Blue and Orange broke that stretch in the top of the fourth, after
Patrick Reyes (JR/Plainedge, NY) drove
Liam Daly (JR/Babylon, NY) home via a sacrifice fly.
However, that was the lone run of the afternoon for the guests, as the hosts were just getting started.
Centenary added a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth, before exploding in the seventh and eighth innings to the tune of five more runs.
Overall, the Panthers finished with six hits in the effort, while the Cyclones had just five hits.
Myles Scarry (5th/Levittown, NY) and
Joe Salerno (SR/White Plains, NY) both recorded two hits apiece, including a double each.
On the mound,
Brandon Reybok (JR/Lindenhurst, NY) received the loss despite a great outing. He allowed just two runs (one earned) on two hits with five strikeouts over five innings.
Up next for Purchase is a return home as the squad hosts St. Lawerence University on March 8th for a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 11 a.m.
