Compton, Miesegaes Power Panthers to First Win

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader Saturday, falling to St. Lawrence University in the opening contest, before bouncing back with its first win of the year in the second game.

Game One. St. Lawrence 4, Purchase 1 (7 inn.)

During the opening contest, the Panthers banged out seven hits but only managed one run after leaving nine on base.

The run came in the fourth inning, tying the matchup up at 1-1, as Liam Daly (JR/Babylon, NY) crossed home plate via a Frank Rega (JR/West Islip, NY) single and an error in the outfield.

From there, the Saints took the lead in the fifth off an RBI-double, before doubling that margin in the sixth inning to make it 4-1.

At the plate, Daly and Rega each finished with two hits apiece. On the mound, Myles Scarry (5th/Levittown, NY) collected the loss after going 5.2 innings.

He finished with four runs allowed on seven hits with five strikeouts.

Game Two: Purchase 9, St. Lawrence 1 (7 inn.)

Following the defeat, the Blue and Orange erupted in game number two to the tune of nine runs, all over the first two innings.

The first run came in the bottom of the first, when Scarry crossed home on a bases-loaded fielder's choice / error by the pitcher.

That mistake proved very costly, as two batters later, Mason Compton (SR/Carmel, NY) crushed a pitch to left field for a grand slam to send the Panthers well on their way.

During the next inning, Daly smashed his own homer, a two-run shot to left, to make it 7-0, before Luke Ciszewski (FY/Hastings-on-Hudson, NY) smacked a two-run triple to right to extend the lead even further.

On the hill, Christian Miesegaes (SO/Staten Island, NY) tossed a complete-game gem. Over his seven innings of work, he allowed just one run on five hits, while fanning four.

At the plate, Compton, Daly and Panos Sinis (JR/Pound Ridge, NY) each finished with a pair of hits apiece in the win.

With the split, the Panthers moved to 1-4 overall on the year. For the Saints, they now sit at 2-2.

Up next for Purchase is more non-conference doubleheader action, as the squad welcomes CCNY tomorrow (3/9) at 11 a.m.
