PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's lacrosse team was defeated at Manhattanville University Friday night, dropping the Skyline Conference matchup by the score of 21-3.
With the result, the Panthers moved to 0-9 overall and 0-5 in the league. For the Valiants, they jumped to 4-6 and 2-2, respectively.
The hosts began the night with first seven goals, before
Julieth Velasquez (JR/White Plains, NY) broke the run with an up-goal early in the second quarter.
From there, Manhattanville ended the period on a 5-1 run, as Velasquez again scored for the Blue and Orange, to make the halftime tally, 12-2.
The second half then saw the Valiants score nine more, before
Maggie Obman (SO/Scotia, NY) found the back of the net in her first game with the Panthers.
In the end, the hosts prevailed 21-3 in the conference matchup. Overall, Purchase finished with four shots, six draw controls and 11 ground balls.Â
Individually, Velasquez totaled two goals on three shots, two ground balls and three caused turnovers in the effort.
Obman recorded four draw controls and a ground ball, while
Catie Chios (SO/Westbury, NY) finished with two draw controls, one caused turnover and a ground ball.
In goal,
Amani Jamal (SR/Hopewell Junction, NY) collected 21 saves and four ground balls.
Up next for the Panthers is another road Skyline matchup, as they travel to Mount Saint Mary College on April 15th at 7 p.m.
