PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Purchase College men's tennis team rolled to a dominant 7-0 sweep over St. Joseph's (L.I.) on Monday evening.
With the results, the Blue and Orange improved to 3-2 on the season and 1-1 in the Skyline Conference, while the Golden Eagles dropped to 1-9 and 0-4, respectively.
Purchase opened strong in doubles play, taking all three matches in commanding fashion. Eli Palagatshev (JR/Yonkers, NY) and Suleyman Eminov (SR/Mary, Turkmenistan) shut out their opponents at the top spot, while Isaac Spottek (FY/Conklin, NY) and Dexter Pretnar (SO/Mohegan Lake, NY) matched the effort at No. 2. The No. 3 duo of Oliver Culliton (SR/Boston, MA) and Steve Mains (SR/Mount Kisco, NY) capped off the doubles sweep with a 6-1 win.
In singles, Eminov was the first to finish, winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2. Spottek followed with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 3, and Pretnar delivered the clincher at No. 4, 6-1, 6-1. Palagatshev remained steady at No. 1, winning 6-2, 6-2, while Culliton and Mains closed out the sweep at No. 6 and No. 5, respectively.
No rest for the Panthers as they return to the courts on April 15 to host Manhattanville University at 3 p.m.
