OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. - The Purchase College baseball team dropped two contents Saturday afternoon, falling at SUNY Old Westbury during a Skyline Conference doubleheader.
Game One: Old Westbury 12, Purchase 6 (7 inn.)
Both teams started the day fast, as they each produced first inning runs.
For the Blue and Orange, they scored two off a
Patrick Reyes (JR/Plainedge, NY) RBI-single, while the hosts knocked in six in the opening frame. One inning later, they scored five more runs to take a substantial lead early, 11-2.
The Panthers later scored two more runs in the third on back-to-back bases loaded walks, before Reyes hit a sacrifice fly for the team's fifth run of the day.
In the seventh,
Lukes Vukdedaj (FY/Nyack, NY) drilled an RBI-double to trim the margin to 12-6, where it eventually finished.
Overall, Purchase finished with six hits in the effort, as
Frank Rega (JR/West Islip, NY) led the way with a pair.
On the mound,
Myles Scarry (5th/Levittown, NY) was tagged with the loss after allowed 11 runs (10 earned runs) in 1.2 innings of work.Â
Game Two: Old Westbury 16, Purchase 9
The final game of the day saw Old Westbury grab the lead first, before three runs in the fourth launched the Blue and Orange in front, 3-2.
While the hosts tied things in the bottom of the inning, it was short lived as
Evan Biener (FY/Hillsdale, NJ) blasted a grand slam in the fifth to put the Panthers ahead.
Despite the favorable margin, Purchase couldn't hold on as Old Westbury scored six in the sixth and five in the seventh to take a commanding lead.Â
Overall, the guests finished with nine runs on 12 hits, as
Liam Daly (JR/Babylon, NY) led the way with three in the effort.
Rega, Scarry and
Panos Sinis (JR/Pound Ridge, NY) each tallied a pair of hits apiece.
On the hill,
Christian Miesegaes (SO/Staten Island, NY) received the loss after going 5.1 innings in the start. He allowed eight runs on 13 hits, while striking out three.
With the results, the Panthers dropped to 8-22 overall and 5-9 in the Skyline.
Up next for the squad is a return to non-conference action, as they travel to WestConn for a single game on April 21st at 6 p.m.
