Purchase Cruises Past WestConn, 10-3

DANBURY, Conn. - The Purchase College baseball team secured a big non-conference win Monday evening, topping Western Connecticut State University by the score of 10-3.

With the result, the Panthers moved to 9-22 overall, while the Wolves dropped to 8-17.

The guests stuck first in the victory, as first-inning home runs from Liam Daly (JR/Babylon, NY) and Sam Saltzman (SR/Old Bethpage, NY) put them up, 3-0.

In the third, Mason Compton (SR/Carmel, NY) slapped a two-run double to push the margin to 5-0.

The hosts then proceeded to score runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to make it 5-3, but that was as close as they got the rest of the game.

Over the final two innings, the Blue and Orange scored five more runs to push the score to its final line, 10-3.

At the plate, Purchase had 13 hits as Panos Sinis (JR/Pound Ridge, NY) led the way with a trio.

Daly, Compton, Evan Biener (FY/Hillsdale, NJ) and Marc Castillo (FY/Bronx, NY) each belted two hits apiece in the effort.

On the mound, Justin Lorenzo (SR/Freeport, NY) collected the win after going five innings in the start. He allowed three runs (two earned) on nine hits with two strike outs.

Kyan Zamaniyan (SO/Smithtown, NY) earned the save, as he gave up just one hit over the final four innings of work.

Up next for the squad is a return to Skyline Conference action, as the team travels to Mount Saint Vincent this weekend for a doubleheader. First pitch is set for noon on April 26th.
